Monika Herédi is a costume designer based in Montréal, and has been active in film, television, theatre and opera for over twenty five years.  Her costume design credits include Moment, winner of 35+ awards, including a  nomination for Best Costume Design at the  Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival 2022, Tales from Odessa at the Segal Centre in Montreal, Merlin oder das Wüsteland at the Stadttheater Bruneck, Italy and Vakond at the Katona József Theatre in Budapest, Hungary, among many others. 

As a recipient of the prestigious Baden-Württemberg Theatre Scholarship, she was awarded a season's residency in set design in Germany at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.  This training was followed by an invitation for three years to the Tiroler Landestheater Austria. Monika then designed costumes for new and classic plays in Austria, Italy and Hungary, as well as working as assistant costume designer in  opera, such as The Bregenzer Festpiele, Teatro alla  Scala,   Le Théâtre du Châtelet, The English National OperaThe Hungarian State Opera, Budapest,  Die Volksoper Wien, Vienna and the Hyogo Center of the Arts, Japan. 

 

While still a student at The National Theatre School of Canada, she was one of the founding members and designer of Montreal's still-running Shakespeare-in-the-park Repercussion Theatre, as well as designing sets and costumes for theatres across Canada, including assistant designer at The Shaw Festival. 

Fluent in English, French, Hungarian and German, along with basic Italian, she enjoys working in theatre and film in many  languages and with teams and artists all over the world.

 

In tandem with her passion for costume design, fashion history and languages, she loves to paint and draw and has exhibited her series of ongoing watercolours - No Black paint.
